PENNSDALE – A wet, but steady snowfall blanketed area roads Tuesday, January 9 with a slushy mess, making conditions very slippery and contributing to numerous accidents.

One crash with injuries on Route 220 near Pennsdale forced the closing of a section of a two-lane road between Rabbittown Road and Middle Road about 6:30 p.m. Road conditions were extremely treacherous according to reports.

Other crashes were reported in the 4000 block of Route 220 in Wolf Township about 12:45 p.m; the 3000 block of Route 14 in Lewis Township and on Route 15, just north of Clyde Peeling’s Reptileland in Union County’s Gregg Township about 6:15 p.m.

The crash in Union County sent two people to the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center, Capt. Jim Stehr, a member of the Warrior Run Area Volunteer Fire Co., said.

He said road conditions at the time were deplorable.

“Both cars ended in a ditch,” he said.

The northbound lane of Route 15 was closed for about 30 minutes, Stehr said.

Concerning the crash near Pennsdale, a man driving a pickup truck lost control of the vehicle, which went over an embankment and landed on its roof, Muncy Township Fire Chief Scott Oldweiler said.

The driver and a male passenger both managed to climb out of the wreckage on their own, Oldweiler said.

“I ordered the road closed because I wanted to keep the rescue workers at the scene safe and prevent other accidents from happening,” he said.

Soon after this crash, a man lost control of his Jeep on Route 220 and landed in a ditch about a half a mile north of the scene, Oldweiler said.

“No one was injured. The vehicle was pulled out and the driver was on his way,” he added.
