MONTGOMERY – As a police officer was attempting to handcuff alleged drunk driver Katherine Sue Fogelman, the 47-year-old woman screamed at her father, “Get a gun and shoot him,” referring to the cop, according to the officer’s criminal complaint.

Borough Patrolman Eric Winters had pursued Fogelman from the area of Second and Broad streets after the woman nearly struck the officer’s cruiser with her Nissan as she turned onto Second Street (Route 405) at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday, January 21, police said.

As the two crossed over the bridge into Northumberland County, Winters activated his cruiser’s emergency lights and siren, but Fogelman made no attempt to stop, police said. She accelerated her speed to 50-55 mph on River Road, where the speed limit is 40 mph, police said.

She turned onto Fogelman Road and soon pulled into a driveway, police said. Winters ordered her out of the car, but she initially refused, according to an affidavit.

Once she got out of the vehicle, she struggled with the officer, “thrashing from side to side,” Winters wrote in the affidavit.

The woman’s father came out of a neighbor’s house and ordered the officer to get off his property.

The officer managed to get Fogelman in handcuffs and took her to Muncy Valley Hospital because he alleged that she drove the Nissan “while under the influence of alcohol.”

However, once the two were at the hospital, Fogelman, of Watsontown, declined to provide a blood sample.

Arraigned before District Judge Christian Frey on charges of terroristic threats, resisting arrest, fleeing police, driving under the influence of intoxicants and driving with a suspended license, Fogelman was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
