Lycoming Mall loses power, closed temporarily last week

The Lycoming Mall closed abruptly last Tuesday morning due to a power outage caused by “technical problems,” said Michael Cohan, owner of the property.

Cohan said he expected to have the power back on before the end of the business day.

PPL spokeswoman Tracie Witter, however, did not disclose any reasoning for the outage nor could she give an estimate on when power would be restored.

“We acknowledge the public interest in this property and will continue to work with the mall owner to restore power,” she said. “Nothing is more important to us than the convenience of our customers. We don’t have a time on when power will be restored.”

The Lycoming Mall typically is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays but had to close at about 11:30 a.m. because of the outage, according to a post on the mall’s Facebook page.

“Please be advised that the Lycoming Mall has lost power,” the post read. “At this time PPL is saying we will be down until at least tomorrow. We will post updates as available. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Comments on the post indicated some other buildings around the mall also may have experienced outages.

However, “there are no equipment or power failure issues in that area,” Witter said, and no outages in the vicinity of the mall were noted on PPL’s online outage map.

A Muncy Township police officer was seen making rounds on the mall’s property, but no one in that office responded to calls for comment.

Someone who answered the phone in the mall’s security office declined comment and hung up without identifying himself.
