MONTGOMERY After running two stop signs and traveling at excessive speeds, Justin Kennedy lost control of his 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo at Second and Broad streets, crashing into a curb and driving on the sidewalk and through a yard before he bailed out and fled on foot, borough police said.

Riding with Kennedy, who was fleeing from borough Patrolman Eric Winters about 2:45 a.m. on Feb. 9, was Lisa Gebhart, who was upset and told Winters she screamed at Kennedy, pleading for him to stop as he drove recklessly on several streets.

At the height of the pursuit, Kennedy, 42, of Danville, was traveling at speeds of 60 mph on streets where the speed limit was 25 mph, Winters said.

Gebhart, 41, of Selinsgrove admitted to Winters that she and Kennedy, 42, of Danville, had been using “crystal methamphetamines earlier and that the two were drinking while Kennedy was driving,” the officer wrote in an affidavit.

The officer said he saw two open cans of beer inside the car.

It turned out that there was a bench warrant for Gebhart’s arrest because she failed to show for a hearing on another criminal matter in Northumberland County, Winters said.

In searching Gebhart’s purse, the officer found a bag of crystal methamphetamine. Gebhart was automatically placed in the Northumberland County Prison on the bench warrant.

Five days after the pursuit, Kennedy was arraigned last week before District Judge Jon E. Kemp on charges of recklessly endangering, resisting arrest, fleeing police and careless driving. He was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail. There was no information on where and how he was taken into custody.

Gebhart, already out on $5,000 bail on other charges, was also brought before Kemp and arraigned on possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was recommitted in lieu of $90,000 additional bail.
