Sharing Muncy’s Memorial Day

May 30, 2013

To my daughters and family who live so very far away, I sent this e-mail:

May 29, 2013 at 4:07 p.m.

Dear Winona and Family,

Blessed Memorial Day in remembering our ancestors and veterans…

It was a clear, sunny cool day. The parade came down Penn Street to the cemetery…Muncy Band looking good…wore their uniforms again with plumed hats. There was a horse drawn carriage in it too, everyone handing out little flags. A gun salute at the cemetery, then Taps…and then Echo taps in the distance.

Aunt Sara Jane and I put cut flowers on Daddy and Aunt Marianne’s, Aunt Esther’s, Grandfather Harland’s and the Woods graves…Iris and Rodadendron, wild flowers too.

With love and prayers for each…

Hello dear Mommie,

Thank you for your dear message. I can just picture the day, just as it happened in my childhood. Very special, I think.
