Davis Among 1,000 Point Hall of Famers

The Muncy Jr High wrestling took first place at the Mifflinburg Duals tournament last Saturday, Jan. 3, defeating Sayre, Berwick, Bloomsburg and Mifflinburg. (Colburn)
Boys Basketball
Hughesville 90, Muncy 55
Led by Rezin Davis’s 26 points (six 3 pointers) the Spartans took control of the game with a 35-11 second quarter for a commanding 55-30 halftime lead.
Hughesville finished the game on a 45-25 run for the 35 point win. The Spartans had three players along with Davis including Jordan Holmes (12 points) and Brian Gerney and Andy Laychur with (10 points) each.
Also contributing to the Spartans hot shooting from beyond the arc (11 3-pointers) were Holmes and Dylan Lesher with (2 each) and Torin Jeffrys with (1). Doug Zehner (15 points) led the Indians while Zach Martin had (11) and Steve Shoup added (10). Muncy had five three pointers led by Zehner with (4) and Nate Fox with (1).
Hughesville 56,
Central Columbia 47
The Spartans trailed 18-15 after a quarter but outscored the Blue Jays 13-9, 16-9 and 12-11 over the final three quarters picking up the win. Brian Gerney (13 points, 9 boards, (1) 3 pointer) led the Spartans while Bryan Hoover added (10 points).
St John Neumann 61, Montgomery 52
The Red Raiders played well over the final three quarters but never recovered from a 22-7 first quarter deficit in the loss to Neumann on Tuesday night. The Red Raiders had three with (2) from Quinn Fry and (1) from Logan Budman. Budman and Travis Kennedy led the Red Raider offense with (11 points) each.
Montoursville Christmas Tournament
Elkland 67, Muncy 59
Elkland used their transition game to outscore the Indians in the third quarter (19-10) and (19-13) in the fourth for the comeback win. Shoup played well for the Indians with (8 points, 9 boards, 5 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks).
Scoring in double figures for the Indians were Tyler Smay (12 points), Doug Zehner and Bryan Parrish with (11 points) each.
Montoursville 65,
Muncy 49
After a low scoring first quarter that saw the teams tied at 7-7 the Warriors took a 25-19 halftime lead with a 18-12 second quarter. The Warriors came out firing in the third quarter 22-to-9 taking a 47-to-29 lead to the fourth quarter. Muncy would rally in the fourth quarter 21-18 but could not make up the deficit falling by sixteen.
Both teams were hot from beyond the arc with Muncy getting (8) three pointers from Zehner (12 points) and Dan Murphy (14 points) combined while the Warriors got (7) three pointers including from Vincent Molesky 18 points, 2 3’s), Curtis Jacobson 6 points,2 3’s) and one each from Dave Krezmer (18 points), Ryan Yost (3 points) and C.J. Atherholt (3 points). St John Neumann won the tournament championship with a 75-51 win over Elkland.
Midd-West Tournament
Montgomery 52,
Midd-West 50
Trailing 13-9 after a quarter the Red Raiders went on a 16-12 second quarter run to tie the game at 25 at the half. Midd-West regained the lead 42-38 after three quarters but the Red Raiders finished the game on a 12-8 run for the hard fought two point win.
Q. Fry led a Red Raider balanced attack with (18 points) while Kennedy had (9 points) and Pysher and Logan Budman added (8 points) each. Shirk added (8 points). Montgomery got three point FG’s from Fry (3) and one each from Budman and Kennedy.

After taking a 18-12 halftime lead the Lady Millionaires started the second half getting buckets from Molly Dincher, Emily Krall and Meredith Manchester taking a 26-12 lead an finished the quarter with a 34-21 lead heading to the fourth quarter. Casey Drick and Kelsey Lynch led the Lady Red Raiders with (6 points) each while Abby Schneider added (5).
Loyalsock 57,
Montgomery 24
After losing to Montoursville in a first round game the Lady Lancers came out firing Saturday leading 16-8 after a quarter and 31-16 at the half. Loyalsock broke the game open on a 12-2 third quarter run for a 43-18 lead heading to the fourth quarter, and had three players in double figures led by Kelly Henninger (16 points), Sami Lane (13 points) and Marisa Stetts with (11 points). Montgomery was led by Kelsey Lynch with (14 points) while Casey Drick added (8 points). Williamsport won the tournament championship with a 45-26 win over host Montoursville.
Warrior Run 54,
Muncy 26
Playing smothering defense the Lady Defenders held the Lady Indians to single digits in all four quarters. Warrior Run jumped out 14-8 after a quarter and led 31-to-14 at the half. The Lady Defenders finished the game on a 23-to-12 run for the twenty eight point win. Danielle Berninger led Muncy with (6 points) while Kelsi Chuprinski and Courtney Ebner added (5 points) each. Muncy’s only 3 pointer was by Ala Miller.
Milton 58, Muncy 38
Milton’s Melissa Balliet entered the game needing nine points for 1000 for her career. Balliet got nine plus 11 more for a game high 20 points.
Milton led 13-7 after a quarter and 26-15 at the half before a big 16-4 run in the third quarter gave them control of the game 32-19 at the turn for home. Berninger and Chuprinski had (8 points) each for the Lady Indians while Ann Miller added (7 points).
Behind Molly Dincher’s double-double (19 points, 16 rebounds) The Williamsport Lady Millionaires defeated the Montgomery Lady Red Raiders 49-23 in the first round of the Montoursville Christmas Tournament.
