By Staff | Jan 10, 2009

The economy and its impact on the state budget with area lawmakers and other leaders during a special forum Tuesday at Williamsport Hospital.

State House Appropriations Chairman Dwight Evans, D-Philadelphia, who is hosting a number of the forums around the state, will be at the 11 a.m. event in hospital Conference Rooms A & B.

Others expected to attend will be state Reps. Rick Mirabito, D-Williamsport, Garth Everett, R-Muncy, Mike Hanna, D-Lock Haven, and state Sen. E. Eugene Yaw, R-Loyalsock.

Mirabito said Lycoming County Commissioners, Williamsport Mayor Gabriel J. Campana and city council members are also expected to attend.

Hearing from the public, he said, will be an important aspect of the event.

“We have to prepare getting together a budget for next year. We have to get feedback out to people, and about the best way to solve the upcoming budget crisis facing our state is to get as much community input as possible.”

With the state facing budget shortfalls, lawmakers will have their work cut out for them in making the right decisions, he noted.

“The important thing is to figure out how we can get the biggest bang for our buck with what we have,” he said. “It will consume a huge amount of our energy.”

Seating will be limited. For information, call 329-3588.
