Dome is Safe, But in Need of Repairs

By Staff | Feb 6, 2009

An air-supported sports dome in Lycoming County is safe, but the developer claims it has been unable to get the company that designed and installed it to make needed repairs.

Turkey Run Partners, of Montoursville, makes the allegation in a suit filed this week in U.S. Middle District Court against Arizon Cos., of Maryland Heights, Mo., and its nine subsidiary firms.

The sports dome, which was completed in October 2006 just west of the Lycoming Mall in Muncy Townip, cost $1.4 million.

Turkey Run claims there have been problems with the fabric, cable grid system, foundation, mechanical equipment and air handling and pressure systems which have led to rusted cables, leaks, fabric separating and a partial collapse under the weight of snow in February 2007, the complaint states.

The suit also alleges the defendants misled Turkey Run about their experience in constructing similar domes and did not follow specifications for some materials.

The dome, now operated by the River Valley YMCA, is part of the $4.8 million Generations Sports Complex. The YMCA’s East Lycoming branch is nearby.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.
