Muncy Man Charged with Forgery, Thefts
A Muncy man allegedly wrote 99 checks totaling nearly $36,000 to himself from Grandview Health Homes, Mahoning Township police said.
Police charged Glenn Lawrence Wirth Jr., 63, with forging the name of Jerry Boone on checks with a signature stamp, theft and tampering with records from Dec. 14, 2002, through May 14, 2008.
He allegedly wrote the checks totaling $35,785 while working for Valley Management Co., which manages employee payroll accounts for other companies. Wirth, who was employed by the company since 1993, assumed control of the business checking account when another employee retired, according to arresting officer Mahoning Township Cpl. Clay Fahringer.
Wirth was arraigned by Montour County District Judge Marvin Shrawder and released on his own recognizance.
Valley Management Co. President Michael Boone learned of deficiencies in a checking account at Sovereign Bank in 2008 and ordered an audit, which uncovered the 99 checks payable to and cashed by Wirth, police said.
