Muncy Postmaster Succumbs

Timothy Jay Stockdale, 50, of 1301 Monroe Ave., Lewisburg, passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

Born March 30, 1958, in Lewisburg, he was a son of John C. Stockdale and the late Margaret J. (Thomas) Stockdale.

On Oct. 1, 1983, Tim married the former Terry A. Bennett, with whom he observed their 25th wedding anniversary last year.

Tim attended Lewisburg High School until his junior year and then graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1976. Following graduation he joined the U. S. Air Force, where he served in Korea for one year and was later stationed at Andrews Air Force base. Tim then earned his Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from Penn State, Harrisburg campus.

For the past 25 years he was employed with the U. S. Postal service and was the Postmaster in Hughesville before accepting a position as Postmaster in Muncy, which he has held the past twelve years. He was a member of National Association of Postmasters of the United States (NAPUS).

Tim’s main passion in life was the love of his family and two children. In his spare time he was often on the golf course at the Bucknell Golf Club, where he was President of the Men’s Association. He was also an accomplished bowler and was a member of the 300 Club at the former Wilcox Lanes in Mifflinburg. In addition, Tim was an avid card player and a huge Penn State fan. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Muncy Area.

Tim was a lifetime member of Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Terry, and his father of Mt. Joy, are his stepmother, Mary Stockdale, also of Mt. Joy; one son, Alexander Bennett Stockdale and one daughter, Margaret Mae Stockdale, both of Lewisburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John C. Jr. and Peggy Stockdale of New Columbia and Andrew J. and Gina Stockdale of Lewisburg; two nieces, Dana N. and Carlie J. Stockdale; and one nephew, Curtis A. and wife Tessa Stockdale.

He was predeceased by his mother and an infant brother, Daniel Lynn.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday and again from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Monday at his church, Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. Third St., Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. William S. Henderson. Burial will follow in Lewisburg Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Bucknell Golf Club, P. O. Box 297, Lewisburg, PA 17837 or Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. Third St., Lewisburg, PA 17837 or the American Cancer Society Union County Unit, 57 Reitz Boulevard, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. Second and St. Louis Streets, Lewisburg.
