By Staff | Sep 7, 2011

HUGHESVILLE – Plans are well underway as Hughesville merchants begin organizing another “5-to -Drive Giveaway” where an automobile from Murray Motors will be given away to a lucky participant. Suzanne Holmes, Secretary for the Greater Hughesville Business Association (GHPA) announced that the event will start Black Friday this year giving everyone more time to shop. “They will have ten days to shop,” she said.

A breakfast fundraiser for the The “5-to -Drive Giveaway” is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Muncy Valley Moose. GHPA members will be serving a buffet style breakfast with eggs and sausage, and tickets are now available at many participating businesses.

A “Bike-a-Thon” fundraiser to print “Welcome to Hughesville” brochures is scheduled to be held at the Lycoming County Fairground on Saturday, October 15 with times and registrations to be determined while sponsorships are being circulated.

Becky Fought announced that she is still taking contributions for the brick campaign for the Hughesville Memorial Park. The Lions and Rotary organizations are working together to contribute to the landscape and design of the “Flowers Park Project.”

“The fundraisers are important so we can look for more ways to get funds in order to host more events,” Holmes announced. “We still need to raise money for the flag poles and purchase a new banner.”

Other events that are being planned are the annual Halloween and Christmas parades. Committees are needed for the annual Golf Tournament, 5-to-Drive Giveaway, Bike-a-thon, Parades, and building new members. Holmes replied, “We need to spread out the work force.”

Summer projects included purchasing flower pots for Main Street, installing Memorial Day flags, June sidewalk sales, and a Golf Tournament.

The next meeting will be September 21 at 7 p.m. at the Muncy Valley Moose.
