Salem School House Road Bridge Being Closed for Safety Reasons
MONTOURSVILLE – Motorists in eastern Lycoming County are being advised that PennDOT is closing a state-owned bridge (SR 2050) on Salem School House Road for safety reasons.
The existing 56′-long bridge over Little Muncy Creek was built in 1909. It is a two-span structure and is currently classified as structurally deficient. It is located just south of Route 118 on the Franklin/Jordan township line and approximately three miles east of Lairdsville.
During a routine inspection, severe undermining was found beneath the pier, which prompted the closure for the safety of the traveling public.
PennDOT will develop an emergency repair plan, with repairs planned in the next few weeks, after which the bridge could be reopened to traffic.
In the meantime, a detour is being set up. PennDOT has programmed a bridge replacement project tentatively scheduled for 2016.
