Moreland Baptist Road bridge replacement starts this week

By Staff | Apr 10, 2012

A new bridge carrying Route 2019 (Moreland Baptist Road) over German Run in Moreland Township, Lycoming County will be in service by early summer.

The existing 21′-long bridge, built in 1929, is classified as functionally obsolete. It will be replaced with a new box culvert on the existing alignment.

Starting Monday, April 9, a PennDOT maintenance crew began a bridge replacement project for the bridge located between the intersections with Tome Road and Smith Road.

While the work is under way, the road will be closed and traffic will be detoured via Route 442 and Funston Road.

The PennDOT crew will remove the existing bridge and prepare the site for the new box, which will be delivered and set in place by a private contractor. Then, the PennDOT crew will reconstruct the roadway approaches and perform all other work necessary to complete the project and open the new bridge to traffic.

The new bridge is expected to be in service by mid-June.
