New columnist announced for Montgomery Locals
MONTGOMERY – Mrs. Carina McNear, along with co-teacher Mr. Christopher Ulrich and the Montgomery High School Broadcasting class, will be the new reporters for the Montgomery locals section of the LUMINARY.
Headed by Mrs. McNear, broadcasting and journalism instructor for the class will begin working with the newspaper November 7, and will cover Montgomery events as well as write feature articles concerning the school and surrounding community.
McNear is currently in her fourteenth year of teaching at Montgomery. She works with grades 8 through 12 and teaches Broadcasting, Theatre, Vocal Workshop, and Music Technology. She is also co-director of the extra-curricular vocal and theatre ensemble, Virtuoso.
McNear graduated with her teaching degree from Lycoming College. She earned her Masters in Opera Performance and Vocal Pedagogy from Penn State University. She holds teaching certifications in Music and Communications as well as a certificate in Bully Prevention in Public Schools. In addition to teaching at Montgomery, she served as an Adjunct Instructor at both Penn State University and Lycoming College, teaching Vocal Methods for Music Education students and Studio Voice.
Mrs. McNear recently moved back to her hometown of Elimsport. She is married and has a son, Gabriel. Her favorite thing to do is to spend time with her family.
While Mrs. McNear will oversee this new educational opportunity for the Broadcasting students, she wants to be sure to credit those students as well as her co-teacher and technical advisor for the class, Mr. Chris Ulrich. “We are a team and could not do what we do without all working together. I am very proud of what our students have accomplished and am excited to work with them on this new and worthwhile project,” said McNear.
