Tony the Tiger from Kellogg's, one of the sponsors for the day, greeted each team player as they were introduced on Kiess Field in Muncy Creek Township Saturday morning.

MUNCY – Perfect weather held out for the Muncy Little League opening ceremonies Saturday morning starting at 11 a.m. at Kiess Park, Muncy Creek Township.

With cameras and smart phones clicking everywhere,Tony the Tiger welcomed each team member and coach with a handshake as they entered the main ball field for introductions. This was the 67th opening season announced Vice President, Chris Hann for Muncy Little League.

Two hundred youth had registered for both softball and baseball leagues comprising fifteen Little League teams.

Recognitions went to the supervisors of Muncy Borough, Muncy Creek and Muncy Townships. Leon Clayton was especially well received for his long term commitment to maintaining the ball fields at Kiess Park. He came out to the field to take a bow and receive an award. “He is a true staple in the community,” announced Hann.

John Brink from the American Legion who has coached Little League for almost three decades was a guest speaker. “Muncy athletes are known for their sportsmanship,” he said.

Leon Clayton (center) was recognized for his many years of service to Muncy Little League and maintaining Kiess Field.

Bill McClain threw out the first pitch to his grandson.

A big thank you went to the two biggest sponsors, Muncy Bank and Trust, represented by Kim Fiegles, and the American Legion Post 268 for the exclusive use and rights of the field. The Color Guard was also presented by them with Alexa Hann singing the national anthem.
