MUNCY – This past weekend was the opening season of the R.J. Patrizio Muncy Pool. There was an expansion and renovation project prior to the opening to update some of the services for the community.
One of the newest acquisitions is a hydraulic chair lift that operates by remote so that handicapped individuals can be lowered into the water safely. Also new is the bath house and changing rooms. Originally built in 1963, the pool house needed to be updated badly according to board member, Jamie Brelsford, and so a 12×15 addition was added.
New plumbing and electrical work was also added as well as a new entrance, a revised floor plan and a bigger family changing room.
The first phase of the renovation included a 900 square foot addition to the original building and was completed by Robert Boyles Construction.
Students from the Lycoming County Career Consortium worked on the project installing new lighting, plumbing and underground wiring. There are now three changing rooms for both men and women, 3 showers and 3 bathrooms including one in each for handicapped.

The work began in late fall and funding was provided through a grant with the First Community Foundation.
There are 12 lifeguards, a manager, and an assistant manager operating the pool for the summer. The first community day with free admission will be on June 27th with a rain date on June 28th. The pool will be open 7 days a week from 1 to 7 p.m. until Labor Day. Private pool parties can also be scheduled “under the lights” by calling 546-3039.
