BARB BARRETT/The Luminary Nancy and Garry Burgard from Hughesville crafted many wooden items and painted snowmen from gourds for the Art at the Barn event.

MUNCY – A new venue in Muncy recently held a holiday craft fair that featured some very talented local artisans. Before the cold struck in for the season, the merchants were able to provide their one of a kind crafts in a unique environment known as “The Barn.”

The event was a first and it was called “Art at the Barn.” It was such a success according to the merchants, they hope to have this as a yearly event.

‘The Barn’ as it is simply called or the ‘Farm on Beeber Drive’, is a feature in itself. Comprising of 17 acres, the property dates back to the 1780s. Owners Justin and Amber Gardner wanted to keep it as intact as possible and have made many enhancements, especially outdoors.

According to Justin, the event planning began for them when last year a friend asked him if he could have his wedding on the property. With open countryside, unique stone foundations and “old world country charm” they turned the rustic barn with wooden floors and original beams into a romantic setting for the couple.

“We can only keep the barn open during the warm months,” said Gardner due to lack of heat. However lighting can be added. To end the season ‘Art at the Barn’ featured artisans Garry and Nancy Burgard from Hughesville with handcrafted wood items, baskets by Karen Spring, and pottery by Kathy Gorg, Joel Ryder and Victoria Thompson Hess. Also on site were jewelry pieces by Melissa Jenkins, homemade soaps and lotions by Amber Adams, blown glass crafted by Cheryl Bower and stained glass made by Susan Seybert.

BARB BARRETT/The Luminary Muncy artist, Deb Mezick won first place in the Bald Eagle art competition for her watercolor painting of St. James Episcopal Church in Muncy. She was working on another church painting at 'Art at the Barn' event for this year's competition.

Deb Mezik from Muncy featured her prize winning church painting of St. James Church in Muncy that she did for the annual Bald Eagle Art League painting competition. Her watercolor painting won first place last year and during the ‘Art at the Barn’ event, she was working on another church painting that she is entering for this year.

Sue Seybert said she started doing stained glass a few years ago and really liked it. She crafted a one-of-a-kind three dimensional hanging star that was very popular, and by the end of the afternoon she was almost sold out.

Also available were a wide assortment of pocketbooks by Tammy Daneker, hand made bird houses and holiday items by David and Barbara Michael, and primitives by Deb Sampsell.

Visitors had four hours to shop, from one to five in a most unique setting, and were provided with one of kind pieces of art that could not be found anywhere else but here in Muncy.
