MONTGOMERY – Local man William Baysore was flipping through the newspaper around Labor Day when he saw that a Hollywood film crew was looking for a cabin to be used as a film set. He immediately thought of his daughter and son-in-law, Montgomery residents Kathy and Larry Pentz, who own a hunting cabin in Elimsport.

The cabin was built by Larry’s father, LeRoy Pentz. Kathy Pentz took a photo of their hunting cabin, surrounded by tall trees and rugged terrain and sent the photo to Producer Nancy Degnan of Intuition Film Productions in California. Degnan reviewed the photos of the cabin and said, “This could work.”

Some members of the film crew flew in from California to look at the Pentz property and it turned out to be the perfect location for the film. Kathy Pentz was quick to point out that there was one change that had to be made for the film – their cabin had to be transformed into the home of a disorganized junk collector. The crew had to scatter debris around the yard to give it the appropriate look. Despite the change in the cabin’s appearance, Baysore said, “It’s the most exciting news to happen in this area in a long time.”

The film is titled ‘Buck Run’ and has been filming additional scenes around Backwoods Lumber in Elimpsort and various locations in Lewisburg. Julio Armando Lopez, the executive producer of the film and the CEO of Tomorrowland Productions said, “We are really grateful how the town and the people have opened their arms to us. It’s amazing.” Nancy Degnan agreed and added, “We’re sad to leave . . . It’s been quite fun.” She further commented, “It’s been a blessing to be here.”

‘Buck Run’ is being made by Intuition Film Productions and Tomorrowland Productions. The screenplay was written by Bucks County native David Hauslein, and the director of the film is Lewisburg native Nick Frangione. Frangione said, “I wanted to make sure that everything was authentic and real to Pennsylvania and I feel that we’ve accomplished that, and we’ve particularly accomplished that due to the help of the people here.”

Frangione described Buck Run as a coming-of-age story about a fifteen-year-old boy who loses his mother to cancer and has to go and live with his estranged father, an alcoholic veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. “It’s about their relationship and the two of them trying to come together; and about this teenager becoming a man in very unfortunate circumstances.”

Some of the cast members in the film include James Le Gros (Person of Interest), Nolan Lyons (Boardwalk Empire), Amy Hargreaves (Homeland), Kevin J. O’Connor (The Mummy), Angus MacFayden (Braveheart), Jim Parrack (Suicide Squad), and Alicia Goranson (Roseanne). Kathy Pentz and William Baysore were extras in the film.

Fifteen-year-old Nolan Lyons, an actor based out of New York who stars in the film, said he enjoyed filming in the area because it was “nice, different, and quiet.” When asked why he was interested in the part he said, “I read the script, and it was a really great script. One of the best I’ve read, so when they offered it to me, I immediately said ‘yes.'”

Filming has been wrapped up and ‘Buck Run’ is currently in post-production. The film will be in different film festivals in 2017 and theatrical distribution is planned for 2018.
