BARB BARRETT/The Luminary Janessa K. Mitterling opened a new State Farm office in Muncy in early December. She is a full time licensed agent who has been with the company for nine years. A MPBA member, she is planning a three part series of free workshops on "Budgeting Basics" that will begin Jan. 25.

MUNCY – Not a new business, but a new owner has come to Muncy to operate the State Farm Agency located on N. Washington Street. Janessa Mitterling officially re-opened the office on December 1st, 2016 with a “soft launch” and a grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on January 2, 2017.

Mitterling, who is from Middleburg, is a licensed full time State Farm agent providing all insurance services for auto, home, life, health, and banking. She has been with State Farm for nine years working her way up to accreditation for managing and owning her own office. Before coming to Muncy, Mitterling worked for a State Farm agency full time in Shamokin Dam.

“I was offered this opportunity,” she said, “to learn the business, and started from the bottom to become an office manager.” She then decided to be an “exclusive” agent with State Farm and run her own agency. “It was an extensive training process,” she added with long days and hours.

Mitterling said she had a choice to choose Muncy or Danville and decided on the Muncy location because she heard nothing but good things about this community. “I thought it would be a good fit to take care of the people who live here,” she replied. “I love the small town feel of Muncy.”

She is currently serving the clients that were previously with Mike Klein who has taken an executive position with State Farm Corporate managing the Scranton and Pocono region. Klein is still a Muncy resident and was previously involved extensively with the MPBA while spending seven years in the Muncy area as a State Farm agent.

“Our essence is to be a good neighbor and walk the walk I talk, and be the good neighbor in Muncy that everyone can count on,” she said. “Auto insurance is necessary, but I love life insurance,” Mitterling added. “I can change or make a difference in somebody’s life.”

One of their objectives is to help clients with goals from estate planning to retirement planning and even planning for children’s education.

State Farm in Muncy has a commercial division with products for business owners as well. To help improve credit scores and control finances, Mitterling and her staff are currently hosting free budgeting workshops starting January 25 at Orlando’s Restaurant in Muncy.
