Alumni gather for the 112th year
MONTGOMERY – Scholarship donors and recipients were noted at the 112th annual gathering of the Montgomery Area Alumni Association. The event, held June 10, 2017, was attended by 228 members and guests at the Clinton Township Fire Hall, Montgomery. A warm welcome was given by alumni president Larry Stout.
Awards in three categories were given to attending alumni traveling the greatest distances. Those receiving awards were: from the 25-year class, (1992), Jennifer Zarr Saunders of Hixson, TN; the 50 year class, (1967), Steve Myers of Colorado Springs, CO; greatest distance overall was Susan Klobe Beatty of Olympia, WA.
Joyce Follmer Houser, represented the 30 in attendance from the class of 1967. Houser presented to the Alumni Scholarship Fund, a check in the amount of $1,967. From the same class, Thomas Hinkle presented a check of $1,000 in honor of the deceased members of their class. Hinkle also gave the evening’s invocation.
Attendees from the earliest class of 1942 were Audrey Livingston Baylor of Lewisburg and Catherine App.
A fun time was had when a trivia challenge was held between members of the current senior class of 2017 and the 50-year class of 1967.
Scholarship award winner for higher education went to Kathy Kratzer. The Margaret Stoltz Scholarship winner will attend Lock Haven University.
Those receiving scholarships funded by the Alumni Association included Bethany Patterson, going to California University of PA; Brooke Rupert, Penn State University; and Sarah Taylor, College of Misericordia.
The next Montgomery Alumni banquet is scheduled for June 9, 2018.
