HUGHESVILLE – Meet the Lycoming County Junior Fair Board. They are new and they are ready to help out the community. “We want to get more youth involved with the fair, and have more activities,” they announced. The newly appointed youth team has been raising money by holding dances and kickball events throughout the year.
Anyone from grades 7 through 12 can join the organization. The youth organization was culminated through the Lycoming County Fair Board that wanted to give youth a chance to have some “input into the Lycoming County Fair.”
The youth board consists of two students from each grade and as seniors graduate, freshmen can take their place. The new members shadow senior board members during the planning and fundraising activities.
“We hope to get youth more interested in the Lycoming County Fair and that they will have fun while gaining great experiences that may help them later in life,” said Mike Bieber, their advisor and also a member of Lycoming County Fair Board of Directors. “Our hope is that interest will grow in this new idea and we will be able to add responsibilities to the Junior Board as time passes.”
Members have been hosting student dances and some sporting events to help raise interest and money. Lily Kepner from Muddy Hollow Farm on Pine Run Road said they have been selling mugs and she has been taking some of their dairy goats, sheep and chickens to the fairgrounds during events for photo opportunities. The youth team were with the animals during the harness racing event for Meagan’s Box Foundation in June.
Kepner said their group would like to have a big bonfire in October and meanwhile they want to raise money for the marshmallows. Cali Moore said, “We are focusing on a fun night during the fair for the students. We want to have a dance, a movie, kickball and some side games.”
Junior Fair Board members are Ethan Poust, Lilly Kepner, McKenna Smith, David Hopfer, Cali Moore, Jacob Reynolds, Kaitlyn Taylor and Raven Hill.
