MUNCY – Four local High School students were recognized and awarded scholarships by the Muncy Lodge #299, Free and Accepted Masons. The presentation took place at a dinner held at the Lodge Building on Brummer Pond Road before the Lodge’s regularly monthly meeting on Thursday, April 5, 2018.
Applicants came from Muncy, East Lycoming, Montgomery and Warrior Run School Districts and were selected through an application process. The applicant must maintain at least a “C” average for three consecutive years prior to high school graduation to be considered according to guidelines of the Lodge. An essay and official transcript accompanied the completed application.
This year’s recipients were Darrel S. McKee from Muncy High School who will be attending Bloomsburg University with a major in accounting.
Brandon M Daldo, from Montgomery High School was also chosen and he will be attending Penn College. He is planning to become a Heavy Equipment Operator/Technician.
Ashlynne G Eichenlaub from Hughesville High School also received a scholarship and she will be attending East Stroudsburg University, and will continue her education by studying Medical Imaging/Technology.
Levi D Messenger is another recipient from Muncy High School. He will be attending Grove City College where he is choosing to study Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Robotics.
Muncy Lodge #299, F&AM has been awarding annual scholarships for several years. The funding comes solely from donations from its membership.
Past scholarship recipients have pursued several different areas of post-secondary education. Many of those have gone on to liberal arts colleges and others have gone on to trade schools. Feedback to the lodge from previous awardees has been very positive, and the students receiving them typically stay in touch with the organization, even after the recognition ceremony.
Scholarship applications are available in the guidance counselors’ offices at each of the school districts in the fall of every year. Deadline for receiving the completed applications by the selection committee of the Lodge is the middle of February the following year. After reviewing the field of applicants, selections are made, and the winners are notified in late March. Recipients and their families are invited to the lodge for the recognition dinner and ceremony held on the night of the April Lodge meeting in the first week in April.
