Hughesville High School inducts 4 to Hall of Fame

RUTH FRY/The Luminary Hughesville High School inducted 4 new members into their Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, October 12. The induction was held Homecoming Night during half time. The inductees include the late Mick Myers, Class of 1973, (accepting the plaque on behalf of Myers was his wife, Dru McGee (far left); Rachel (Houseknecht) Anderson, Class of 2007; Bob Hall, Class of 1959; and Rebekah (Newhart) Baumunk, Class of 2007.
On Friday night, October 12 four people were inducted into Hughesville High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame. A ceremony was held during half time of the Homecoming football game. The inductees were Bob Hall, class of ’59; the late Mick Myers, class of 1973; Rachel (Houseknecht) Anderson, class of 2007; and Rebekah (Newhart) Baumunk – Class of 2000.
Bob Hall – Class of 1959
Lettered in Football for 2 years; Scored Hughesville High School’s first ever varsity touchdown in 1957; Lettered in Wrestling – 4 years; 1959 Sectional & District 4 Wrestling Champion; 1959 Regional Wrestling Runner-up; 3 year Letterman in Wrestling at Bloomsburg State College; First Bloomsburg Wrestler to place in NCAA competition; First Bloomsburg Athlete to earn All-American status; NAIA National Champion and 3rd place finisher in Wrestling at Bloomsburg; 2-Time PSAC champion in Wrestling at Bloomsburg; Awarded the Robert B. Redman Award as the Outstanding Senior Athlete; 1998 Bloomsburg Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee; 2013 District 4 Wrestling Hall of Fame Inductee; Started the Cocalico High School Wrestling program in 1963 where he coached for 8 years; In 1970 coached 3 sectional champions and a runner-up in the Lancaster County league
Mick Myers – Class of 1973
Lettered in Football for 3 years; Lettered in Basketball – 2 years; Lettered in Track – 1 year; Played Little League, Intermediate, and Legion Baseball and was a Player/Coach for the Hughesville Travelers; PIAA Basketball Official; Assistant Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Montgomery High School 2 years; Sponsored a golf tournament to fight Multiple Sclerosis for 18 years raising more than $200,000; A Memorial Golf Tournament to support a scholarship for a graduating HHS senior established in his honor.
Rachel (Houseknecht) Anderson – Class of 2007
Lettered in Track for 4 years; Holds High School Records in 100 meters, 200 meters, 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles; 2007 PIAA State Champion in 100 meter hurdles; Played High School Soccer 1 year; Attended Liberty University achieving personal best records in 55 hurdles 8.25, 60 hurdles 8.64, 100 hurdles 14.23, Pole Vault 12′-7″, Shuttle hurdle relay 58.77; All Big South Conference honors 2012 3rd Place in Pole Vault; All Big South Conference Academic Presidential Honor Roll 2007-2012; Liberty Track Team Captain 2011-2012; SAAC Member 2009-2012; Member of Big South Indoor Championship Teams 2010, 2011, 2012; Member of Big South Outdoor Championship Teams 2007, 2010; Member of the 2010 Triple Crown Conference Championship Team; Volunteer Track and Field Coach at Liberty University 2013-2015; Contract PT for Vanderbilt Men’s Basketball Team 2016-present; Participated in two Mission trips to Kenya with Liberty University to host running camps, service projects, and vacation bible school
Rebekah (Newhart) Baumunk – Class of 2000
Lettered in Tennis for 4 years at HHS; Member of 4 Time District 4 and 4 Time SVL League Championship Teams; Member of PIAA State Championship Semi-finalist Tennis Team; District 4 Singles Tennis Champion and State Qualifier; 8 Time Letter Winner in Indoor and Outdoor Track at HHS; Broke 3 School Records in High Jump, Triple Jump, Long Jump; Broke Susquehanna Valley League Meet Record in Triple Jump; Competed at Penn Relays; 1st Hughesville Competitor to win the Lehigh Invitational; 3 Time District 4 Champion in High Jump and Long Jump; Qualified for State Championships in 4 events in 2006 and 2007; Indoor State Champion and 3 Time State Medalist in High Jump; Recorded Highest High Jump in AA and AAA competition in 2007; 1 Time State Medalist in Triple Jump and 100 Meter Hurdles; Qualified for Nike Indoor National Championships in High Jump; Scored most team points as a Senior and in a Career at HHS; 8 Time PSAC Place Winner in Track at Shippensburg University; 3 Time PSAC All Conference Award Winner in Triple Jump and High Jump; Broke 2 School Records in High Jump and Pentathlon at Shippensburg; 2010 NCAA National Championship Qualifier in High Jump
