JADE HEASLEY/The Luminary   The 2019 Tri-Town Relay for Life was held at the Montgomery Area High School Football field on Saturday, June 8. One of the many activities enjoyed was bingo. The day was filled with good food, live music, vendors, games, fun, and a time to reflect and remember. Over $50,000 was raised at this year's event.

MONTGOMERY – The Tri-Town Relay for Life was held at the Montgomery Area High School Football field at the Athletic Complex this past weekend. This marks the first time the event was held in Montgomery.

This year’s theme was western and many wore Relay for Life t-shirts emblazoned with the logo “Let’s Go West for a Cure!” The football field was lined with tents that were all decorated to look like buildings in the old west. Plenty of food, vendors, and games were enjoyed by many people who came out to have fun and raise money to fight cancer.

It was also a celebration of survival, and at 6 p.m. scores of local cancer survivors took a victory lap around the track.

After dark luminaries that were sponsored in honor of current fighters and survivors, and in honor of those who had lost their lives to cancer, were lit. Each luminary had the name of an individual on it. Because there were so many luminaries, almost the entire perimeter of the football field was lined with them.

Luminaries also were placed in the bleachers next to the ribbon symbol that spelled out the word “Hope” . During the dedication service, names of every person who had a luminary in their honor or memory were read. Music was played, and poetry was read.

Over $50,000 was raised at this year’s Relay for Life.
