Two Stores to Close
Bed Bath and Beyond and Dressbarn, two stores located in the Lycoming Crossings Shopper Center will shutter its doors by year’s end.
An employee of Bed Bath and Beyond confirmed the store will be closing, most likely in November.
However, an unconfirmed source reported that a rental agreement could not be successfully reached with the shopping center’s landlord.
Dressbarn, located at 240 South Lycoming Mall Road, remains open until December, a store employee comfirmed. For more than 50 years, Dressbarn has served women’s fashion needs.
“This decision was difficult, but necessary, as the Dressbarn chain has not been operating at an acceptable level of profitability in today’s retail environment,” Steven Taylor, Chief Financial Officer said. The Muncy Township location is just one of the 650 stores that will close.
Lycoming Crossing Shopping Center was developed in 2008 and is owned by Vision Group Ventures, in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
In similar fashion The Children’s Place, which sells children’s clothing in Lycoming Mall, is closing as well.
Store closings are part of a national trend due to poor performance-Bed Bath and Beyond is closing 40 stores nationwide while The Children’s Place is closing 40 to 45 stores nationwide in 2019 and another 45 in 2020, according to moneywise.com.
Earlier this year, Pier 1 Imports, a store that sold home decor, closed in June while Payless Shoe Source closed both its Lycoming Mall and Golden Strip locations in the spring.
