From bids to bytes
MUNCY-An auctioneering company’s annual consignment sale, originally scheduled each March, is set to continue this Saturday, April 18. Just don’t plan on being there in person.
Billed as the largest consignment auction in the northeast, Fraley’s yearly sale manages to draw thousands to 1515 Kepner Hill Road in Muncy Creek Township. There, an array of new and used farm and garden equipment, trucks and construction vehicles, parked in multiple rows on the property’s acreage await eager bidders.
This time, those bidding will do so via the Internet.
Caught between the impact in which COVID-19 has altered life-and business-the auctioneering company considered canceling the sale. But in doing so, the economic livelihoods of many agricultural families who depend on the annual sale for their farms would also be impacted.
Using two online platforms-Proxibid and Equipmentfacts, the seasonal sale will continue, but with bidders remaining in place in the safety of their own residences. For those who do not have Internet accessibility, bids will be accepted at the office prior to, but not on, the day of the sale.
Anyone appearing on-site at the day of the sale will be denied entry, and arrangements to pick up the sold items will be made at a future date.
