Montgomery Mayor Herb Resigns

By Staff | May 13, 2020

Effective May 7, Montgomery Mayor Fae Herb announced her resignation as mayor. Councilmember Shawn Coles also resigned from her council seat.

Earlier in the week, Herb confirmed that Eric Winters, officer in charge of the Montgomery Police Department, had been

placed on paid administrative leave due to an ongoing inquiry.

“Ms. Herb wishes the public to know that this was an extremely difficult decision but was the result of continuing issues that cannot be openly discussed at this time,” a statement from Herb said. “She is deeply committed to the future of the borough, and her only regret is for those who voted for her. She wishes to remain active in various community activities, specifically the Hometown Hero Banners (and) promoting Montgomery’s heritage through the Montgomery Area Historical Society.”

Rocky Sanguedolce, vice president of the Montgomery Borough Council, “will take over the duties as mayor as according to Pennsylvania Borough Code,” the statement said. He will be Montgomery’s fifth mayor in less than two

years, with two deaths and an election causing previous turnover.
