“My Father, Carl Campbell, introduced me to fishing at a very young age. I began my fishing experience in small streams such as Laurel Run in Picture Rocks and Rock Run in Glen Mawr. Those small streams allowed me to have success at a young age with very little fishing pressure,” Steven Campbell said.

As both father and son grew up in Picture Rocks, eventually Muncy Creek was their fishing haven from one end of town to the other. “When I became a teenager, I began doing a lot of my fishing with my close friend, Dr. Rick Walters. We fished together for years until his untimely passing in 2015,” Steven said.

Most fishing was done in the local streams of Lycoming County and the Susquehanna River. The furthest ever traveled to fish was to upstate New York for a yearly salmon fishing trip with his father. After the friend’s passing, Steven had not been as active in fishing.

“Since then, it has been a joy to rekindle my love of the hobby through my four grandchildren. The photo of our group was taken at The Rocks in Picture Rocks. It was Youth Fishing Day and I was able to help out as a mentor,” Steven said.

“The children’s fathers in both families are state police officers. Their dedicated work protecting the community and unpredictable hours means they are occasionally unable to attend special events such as this. I am happy to help when I can,” the Pap said.

This year’s fishing with the grandchildren was especially great as they all had success. They are getting to the ages where they can do most of the fishing for themselves and they really had a great time. “During fishing outing in previous years, it has been the parents and grandparents’ job to try and keep the children from falling in the creek or lake. I’m sure as the children get older, and I get older, the roles will be reversed, and I will be the one they watch to keep from falling in the creek,” Steven concluded.
