On Sunday, July 4, 2021, the United Methodist Churches (UMC) of Picture Rocks and Tivoli welcomed Katherine A. Behrens, the newly appointed pastor. The Hughesville resident is a native of Sawmill Holler near Havre de Grace, MD. The pastor’s former post had been a 19-year stay at the Wallis Run charge in northwestern Lycoming County.

Behrens had completed her Bachelor of Social Work Degree with honors from Lock Haven University, and seminary training at Wesley Theological Seminary. Both she and her husband, the Reverend Doctor James R. Behrens, have served in a variety of ministries since she entered the ministry.

Pastor Behrens has also served in the United Churches of Lycoming County work areas of Institutional Ministries, writes articles for ‘Footsteps to Follow,’ and conducts telephone devotions for the United Churches ‘Dial-a-Devotion’ Line.

In the UMC, Behrens has served on the Board of Health Ministries and at one time worked with the UMC Women as an officer of the State College district. The pastor also served as the conference member for Pennsylvania Council on alcohol problems. She has been trained in the UMC to work as a Disaster Response Coordinator.

In her personal life, Behrens aided in raising seven children and has grandchildren in several states.

Although retired in 2019, she has continued to serve and will do so as long as the Lord calls her.

The churches she leads are open to all persons where preaching the Gospel is Biblical based. Gatherings for worship at Picture Rocks UMC begins at 11 a.m. and Tivoli at 9 a.m. each Sunday.
