HUGHESVILLE – The Hughesville High School Class of 1970 celebrated their 50-year reunion over Labor Day weekend, delayed one-year due to Covid.

A tour of the high school guided by superintendent Michael Pawlick was the Friday afternoon activity. That evening, a banquet was held at the Watson Inn with the Pepper Street Band providing the entertainment. Each classmate attending was given a 50th reunion coffee mug, and name tag with their senior picture. They also received a lottery ticket in memory of their late classmate who’d won a million dollars. To scratch off the ticket, a polished 1970 penny accompanied it.

In addition, a person from each of the 11 tables won the Spartan-themed floral arrangements created especially for the occasion. The class of 1970 was the first to graduate under the Spartan mascot. A large memorial display area featured artwork and individual pictures of the 13 classmates who were deceased.

A large committee spearheaded by Karen (Lindauer) Secules and David Burkhart, assembled a 50-year reunion booklet resembling their original yearbook’s exterior. Inside, it contained updated biographies and class memories.

On Saturday, classmates gathered at the home of Patty Shreiner for an outdoor catered picnic. There were high school trivia contests and games were enjoyed, as well as music from the 60s and 70s provided by classmate Scott Lawvere.
