Silver Thorn to offer patio dining

SHIRLEY C. BOATMAN/The Luminary The Silver Thorn’s mural provides beauty and privacy for patio dining.
The Silver Thorn in Hughesville, a popular local restaurant, will be offering patio dining in the coming months. A recently-created mural enhances the property and provides a privacy wall for those choosing to eat outside. The mural was painted by Barbara Johnson of Selma, North Carolina, who often does artwork for local businesses when she is visiting in the area. The Silver Thorn mural depicts Old World images of vineyard grapes, wine jugs, wine barrels, field hops and barley, and beer, all in colorful array.
The Silver Thorn, in business since June, 2017, is owned by Danny and Jennifer Thomas, Vince Grieco, and Greg Sullivan, though Greg will soon be retiring from the partnership. Twenty-four employees work diligently to uphold the restaurant’s excellent reputation for delicious food and good service. The restaurant is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 4 p.m. to midnight.
Plans for the patio include a pavilion, an additional bar, and a sitting area. The opening is scheduled for the second week in May, 2022.
Danny Thomas offered gratitude to the public and to the staff for their continued support. “Covid was tough, but luckily we were able to keep 90 percent of our staff, he said. Server/bartender Alex Warner, who is approaching her third year of employment at The Silver Thorn, says, “It is great here. It’s by far the best place I’ve ever worked.” The Luminary adds that it’s also a great place to eat!
