Samuel Perry Reed Family celebrates 100 years
The 100th Reunion of the Samuel Perry Reed Family was held at the Picture Rocks Park on the Fourth of July, 2022. The first family reunion was on July 4, 1922 at the Park and the tradition has continued throughout these 100 years, with the gathering held consistently at the Picture Rocks Park for the past 50 years. Over 100 family members attended this year on a beautiful day that featured “wonderful food” brought by all, according to those in attendance, and a special sweet treat of Penn State Ice Cream from Cody’s Creamery. A brief meeting was held, with President Robert Reed presiding. The election of officers for 2023 resulted in: President–Debbie Reed; Vice-President–Cody Reed; Secretary–Walt Reed; Treasurer–Perry Reed. This was followed by an enjoyable time of fellowship and reminiscence. At left, recognition was given to the oldest family member present at the Reunion, James B Reed, 86, of Hughesville and to the youngest, Wrenley Harper Reed of Eagle Rivers, Wisconsin, just one month and one day old. Family came from New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, Wisconsin, Texas and Pennsylvania. Robert Reed shared that he believed Samuel Reed was smiling down on all of them, proud that they kept the family reunion going for 100 years– and counting.” Samuel Perry Reed was a veteran of the Civil War. He settled in Lairdsville and many of his descendants have settled in the surrounding areas.
