Grammys Attic opens in Montgomery

By Jade Heasley - | Aug 8, 2022

Montgomery’s newest business is an antiques and craft store called Grammys Attic. It opened its doors on Saturday, July 2nd, on Main Street in the former Montgomery Pharmacy. The store is a joint project of Sam Harer, Sara Scaife, and Dee Goman, who are all originally from Montgomery. Harer and Scaife are siblings, and Goman is Harer’s girlfriend.

Scaife said that having the store was a dream for her and her brother for a long time. She mentioned that he is into antiques and she is more into crafts and primitives.

Harer commented that he has been interested in antiques for his entire life, and began collecting about twenty years ago. His collection is made up of odds and ends and contains a little bit of everything.

The dream to have an antiques store was turned into reality when Harer was at an auction and found a large rocking horse that he purchased. He told his sister that it was time to open the store. She agreed, and as fate would have it, the former Montgomery Pharmacy storefront was available. According to Harer, it only took about one month to get the store open once the decision was made.

When they opened the business, they used the outline of a rocking horse in the store logo. Harer said they decided to call the store Grammys Attic because both Scaife and Goman are grandmothers. They each have grandchildren who call them Grammy.

Harer, Scaife, and Goman run the store together. “Our family and friends have been super supportive,” Scaife commented.

From the day the doors opened on July 2nd, Scaife said the response from the local community and surrounding area has been wonderful. Fortunately, Riverside Campground is very close so people from out of state walk up from the campground to shop as well. The store also does online sales.

On Saturday, July 16, the store had Christmas in July. A large Santa and Mrs. Claus were displayed on the sidewalk. As customers walked in they were greeted by a large variety of antiques, crafts, and collectibles. The interior has changed somewhat since it was the pharmacy. The store has everything from antique radios and record players to movie memorabilia, new crafts, metal signs. There is also a large display of older baseball cards. Harer commented that he hopes to get kids interested in collecting baseball cards again.

In addition to the inventory that the three started with, they also have four different vendors, including Williams Metals and Merchandise. Grammys Attic does some online sales on a consignment basis.

Currently when customers make a purchase they are given a ticket to put in a drawing to win a new blue bicycle that is on display. The winning ticket will be pulled at noon on Saturday, Aug. 27.

Grammys Attic is open on Fridays from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sundays from 12-5 p.m.
