Annual corvette show scheduled in Muncy

On Saturday, September 17, the “Corvettes on Main Street” Car Show will return to downtown Muncy. Presented by the Susquehanna Valley Corvette Club (SVCC), the show is expected to bring around 150 Corvettes to town this year. The cars will park on South Main Street, from Penn Street down to the north end of town. Visitors will be able to see beautifully restored Corvettes from the 1950’s up to the new mid-engine models.
There will be cash prizes and medallions for Corvette classes C1 through C8, and a special attraction will be the celebration of the 1972 model-year Corvette with a separate cash prize and medallions.
The SVCC uses the car show, now in its 14th year, as their annual fundraising event. To date, this event has raised approximately $150,000 for a scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology. The scholarship program, which began at the show’s inception, is for local students from an eleven-county geographic area, who major in automotive mechanics or auto restoration. The SVCC has also made donations over the years to other local charities. Nick Covino is chairman of the Corvette Show and Keith Hoffman is president of the Susquehanna Corvette Club.
According to several sources, many Corvette owners nickname their cars. Ask around at the event to check the veracity of the sources and the variety of the monikers.
SVCC member, Wayne McPheron, says that, “Muncy is a wonderful venue for this event, as the area is a perfect backdrop for the cars. Everyone loves the small town atmosphere of the downtown area. In addition, the Muncy Borough plays a very important part in assisting in preparation for the event.” A number of food vendors will be located behind the main Muncy Bank office at the corner of East Water and North Markets Streets. Don’t drip any of that delicious food on the Vettes, but be sure to catch the presentation to award prizes for the class winners at approximately 2 p.m.
