A play production and the ‘Haunted’ journey of a right-brainer

By Shirley Confer Boatman - | Jan 19, 2023

The auditorium of Hughesville High School seemed a bit ghostly for a few nights in December when students performed Anna Trevouledes’ original stage play, Haunted. Based on Anna’s interest in the movie, Clue, her show casts nine actors “at a dinner party that gets unexpectedly foiled by another realm,” she explains. “A ghost storms the dinner table, putting the mansion on lockdown, and sending the guests on a spiritual scavenger hunt to solve a mystery and regain their freedom.” The play drew an audience of nearly 300.

The cast consisted of Karina Schriner, Maya Snyder, Julia Birdsall, Tessa Chilson-Sheets, Aiden McGinley, Jayden McGinley, Jonah McGinley, Ella Buynak Mary and Emma Freidhof. The crew included Emily Lewis, Stage Manager; Madelyn Gordner, Assistant Stage Manager; Jodi McMahon; Landon Stetts; and Carsyn Stout. Assistant Producer was Molly Nessrodt.

“I have so many people to thank for making Haunted happen,” Anna says. She expressed her gratitude in the playbill by naming the organizations and individuals who assisted, contributed and provided to the production: “Hughesville Library and staff; Kylie Starr Lewis; Avery Eddy; Shelly Sheets; Tess Chilson-Sheets; Karina Schriner; Becky’s Cookie Jar; Kayla Russel, Joseph Jacobs, Amber Hicks, Carol Mordan, Phil Aiken and students at Lyco CTC, Ethan McKensie, and a special anonymous donor.” Anna expressed gratitude in “belonging to such a vital and empowering community,” conveying special acknowledgment to her parents, Dr. Peter and Rose Trevouledes, Molly Nesselrodt, and the cast and crew of Haunted.

Some of us find our true calling later in life, and some interests latch onto us at an early age. Anna Corinne Trevouledes, playwright of Haunted, wrote and produced her first two plays in Fifth grade, scoring the music and casting her classmates for the production. The plays were based on stories the class had read together. Haunted is the outgrowth of a script Anna began in Sixth grade, inspired by her favorite movie, Clue.

At the time, Anna says, “I didn’t have the discipline, experience, or full-size notebook I needed for the project.” Anna has always loved the arts, taking dance lessons at D&K Studios since age seven, studying piano, and acting in high school productions. But she has taken a circuitous route to her current station. She attended Fordham in the Bronx in the Business curriculum, then transferred to the University of Delaware to pursue Dietetics. Realizing she couldn’t deny her passion (“I’m right-brained!” Anna shares), she was set to head to Boston University in 2020 to study film production, with a concentration in screenwriting, when COVID-19 blocked her plan. At home in Muncy, she continues her piano studies, plays guitar, takes lessons and occasionally teaches dance classes at D&K Studios.

She also works part-time at a podiatrist’s office. Her goal is to initiate the Boston University plan in the not-too-distant future. Her enthusiasm, hard work and cheerful attitude forecast success in her endeavors.
