Rotary Honors five with Paul Harris Fellow Awards

The Muncy Rotary, District 7360, held a Foundation Recognition Dinner on April 19, 2023, at Orlando’s Restaurant in Muncy. The day marked the birthday of the originator of the Rotary Foundation, Mr. Paul Harris, in 1917. “To do good in the world,” was defined as its purpose. On a global basis, the foundation has worked tirelessly to help eradicate polio in all countries, holding fundraisers and soliciting donations for this and many other world afflictions.
Muncy’s Club District Grant Projects recently have included Fire Department Thermal Imagers; Instruments for School Band; Nursing Home televisions; Ecuador Girl’s school supplies and hygiene items; Muncy High School student college scholarships; and wheelchairs for children in Quito, Ecuador.
Those honored at the meeting with the Paul Harris Fellow Award for “Service Above Self,” included: Kristy Creasy, mother of Aly Creasy, of Aly’s Monkey Movement, which has benefitted so many ailing children. Barb Morgan presented the award.
Janessa Mitterling, of Janessa Mitterling State Farm Insurance, who partners with students to help them learn about business and works with them in fund-raising projects. Mitch Morgan presented the award.
Curt Chilson, Athletic Director at Muncy Junior-Senior High School. Curt’s award was presented by Dick Langer, who described Curt’s dedication and the “extra miles” he goes for students.
Craig Davidson, (in absentia) of Edmonds, WA, who works for “Rick Steve’s Europe” in philanthropic environmental programs and the promotion of ethical travel.
John Smay honored his father-in-law, Laszio Moses, posthumously, for his work as a Rotarian. Moses immigrated to the United States in 1956, fleeing the Hungarian Revolution. Accepting the award for her father was Marta Smay.
Mitch and Barb Morgan were presented the Major Donor Awards by Vicki Zimmerman, Rotary District Governor. Both Mitch and Barb have earned this award several times, which is earned by donating $1,000. Those honored are given points to use in choosing honorees for the Paul Harris Fellow award.
Ken Martin, from State College Downtown Rotary Club, the evening’s speaker, presented a brief history of Paul Harris’s life and the Rotary Foundation.
