Two wrestlers elected to Muncy HS Athletic Hall of Fame

The Muncy High School Athletic Hall-of-Fame Committee is proud to announce that Ryan Hembury, Class of 2011, of Muncy; and Zach Strickland, Class of 2011, of Blowing Rock, North Carolina, have been unanimously elected as its two newest members in the Class of 2023. Hembury and Strickland are slated for induction at the Homecoming game at half time on Friday, Oct. 6. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
They will be the 77th and 78th members respectfully to enter the Hall since the late Stanley T. Schuyler established the Muncy Athletic Hall-of-Fame 47 years ago. The Committee’s President, Roger Campbell, will be in attendance to present Honorary Picture Plaques to the two newest members.
Hembury and Strickland will have their picture plaques hung in the lobby of the new Muncy High School Gymnasium while also having their sports biographies permanently on display at the Muncy High School Alumni Athletic Website—www.muncysd.org.. Click on Athlete’s name to read their biography.
Prior to the game a meet and greet will be held to honor the two newest members. It will be held at 5 p.m. in the Old Muncy High School gymnasium. Parents, friends, past coaches, Hall-of-Fame members and Committee are invited to attend.
Ryan Hembury,

Class of 2011
Ryan Hembury was an outstanding athlete who excelled in several sports at Muncy High School including Wrestling and Football. He moved on to George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. atter receiving a Scholarship to compete in wrestling. After College he accepted, a teaching and coaching position at Sullivan County High School. He’s currently Head Coach which he’s held since 2020 after serving as Assistant a couple of seasons, while also Coaching the Varsity baseball two seasons, one as head coach. In Muncy Wrestling Ryan proved hard work paid off as he lettered four years at 145 lb. to 189 lb. his senior and compiled a 133-25 overall record. He was a Top Hat Champion his Jr. and Sr. years. In his Senior year was his time to shine as he ran the table at 189 lb., winning Sectionals, Districts, Regionals and the State Championship, along with Zach Strickland who also Captured a State Gold Medal at 152 lb.. Hembury’s and Strickland’s State Titles were the first ones in 55 years when Larry Lauchle won at 112lb. in 1956. In football Ryan lettered four years and was a exceptional tail back rushing for a career 3,088 yards. He tallied 34 TDS, 17 each of his Jr. and Sr. Seasons and averaged 6.8 yards per carry. He had two 1400 yards season. He was selected to the First All-Star teams is Jr. and Sr. seasons.
Zach Strickland, Class of 2011
Zach Strickland was an excellent Athlete who had a Stellar Career in Wrestling at Muncy High School. He lettered four years and compiled a 136-17 overall record. He was named to the Heartland and Mid-Penn All-Star teams. He captured the 2011 PIAA AA State Championship at 152 lbs. The first since Larry Lauchle in 1956. Other Muncy State Champs were Byron Dugan in 1941, Mick Hill in 1942, Ryan Hembury in 2011, Joe Klock in 2018, Scott Johnson in 2021 and Austin Johnson in 2022.
Zach letter his junior and senior years in football. He started at Wide Receiver both years while also seeing time as a defensive back. Zack also did a good job on special teams, seeing time on the punt and kick off teams. Zach went South to Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina to wrestle and get a good education. He lettered four years from 2011 to 2015. He was a NCAA National Qualifier at 165lb. in 2013. SOCON All-Freshman Team and SOCON All-Conference in 2013. Two-time SOCON Runner-UP. Career record 60-40.
He was Head Junior High Coach at Watauga from 2016-2020 and is Head Coach at Watauga High School from 2021 to the Present.
