Moreland Baptist Church Honors Veterans with Quilts
There was a surprise waiting for 14 faithful veterans at Moreland Baptist Church this past Sunday.
It all began last January, when one of the women of the church, after helping her grandmother with a similar project, suggested that quilts be made for the veterans that attended church at Moreland Baptist. So, 12 women got busy making that happen. Eight of them did the hand and machine sewing, two cut the fabrics, and two did the long arm quilting. Whoever could show up, often groups of three or four at a time, randomly worked on the quilts week after week until there were 14 completed coverlets. The Veterans that were honored at the Sunday morning service on November 12 were: Sam Andrews; John Cohick; Jason Codley; Ron Fox; Jesse Sean Houseknecht; J. Howard Langdon; Andrew Leigey; Bob Raup; Rick Shaner; James Snyder; John Snyder; Ken Stackhouse; Bob Stein; and Lynn Temple.
Quilter and spokesperson Bonnie Bower, said, “It was very evident God orchestrated this project beyond any participant’s ability or imagination–from the 42% fabric sale at Ben Franklin in January to anyone in the congregation who gave a monetary donation. The continuous outpouring of prayers has definitely guided this project in its entirety.”
A soup luncheon followed the presentation of the quilts.
Pastor of the Moreland Baptist Church is David Guenin.
