Sonestown Country Inn and Hotel is festive all year

Since assuming ownership of the Sonestown Country Inn and Hotel in August of 2021, Ron Hicks has made some changes. “I started with a fresh coat of paint everywhere. I’d been thinking about how the train to Eagles Mere used to run through here, as well as the West Branch, right behind the Hotel. So, I decided we’d decorate with a railroad theme. The whole place lends itself to that idea, with photos and displays and other railroad memorabilia.” Ron also added an outside bar, with tables and an eating area. “People fish and swim in Muncy Creek behind the hotel here, so it gets good use in the warm weather,” Ron says.
The Sonestown Inn serves fresh seafood and steaks, and those are among their most popular meals. The burgers, with names like, the “Griffin,” a loaded half-pounder, and the “Backwoods burger,” among others, are also favorites with customers.
As they did in 2023, the new year will offer nights with bands playing, and a repeat of their special Valentine Dinner night. “This place was built in 1886, so we set it up to reflect those times, with special candlelight for that special night,” Ron shares. A Murder Mystery dinner night is planned for March. There will be bands throughout the year, with information kept current on their Facebook page. There is also a banquet room available for rental for groups and organizations.
The Hotel part of the Sonestown Inn has 12 rooms to rent, and a Penthouse. They’re currently working on putting these on the Airbnb listings.
Earlier this year, some members of the Alone Paranormal Team visited the hotel and conducted several tests for paranormal activity. Because of the results, the hotel was granted “Friendly Ghost” status. Sometime in 2024, the Alone Team will be doing a presentation of their specific findings in the hotel. Watch for the date of this spirited evening.
To celebrate the season, on December 16, 2023, the Inn will be holding a Christmas Banquet, with music by Cass and the Bailout Crew.
The Inn opens on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays at 4 p.m.
Occasionally featured are “Crock Pot Sundays,” when the business is open for locals and travelers alike. “Whatever we cook in the crock pot is what’s on the menu,” Ron says.
