UPMC Magee Womens expand services to UPMC Muncy

By Shirley Confer Boatman - | Jan 15, 2024

Support for women’s health expanded in eastern Lycoming County with the addition of UPMC Magee Womens in Muncy in 2022. Currently open for appointments on a rotating basis in Muncy and UPMC Williamsport, patients may seek care at either facility. UPMC Magee Womens is staffed by Joshua Stutzman, DO, (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine); Sandy Lentz, CRNP (certified registered nurse practitioner); and Rebecca Russell, CNM, (certified Nurse Midwife).

Dr. Stutzman specializes in obstetrics and gynecology, and is certified in both by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed his medical degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and his residency at Geisinger Medical Center. He now has over 15 years of experience treating women in northcentral PA.

CRPN Sandy Lentz, specializes in obstetrics and gynecology, and is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She graduated from the Army’s Ob/Gyn Nurse Practitioner certificate program and completed her master’s degree in Community Health (Family Nurse Practitioner program) at the University of South Carolina. Sandy has worked for over 30 years in ob-gyn medicine.

Rebecca Russell, CNM, is a certified midwife and nurse by the American Midwifery Certification Board. She completed her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Cincinnati and a doctorate in nursing through Frontier Nursing University. Rebecca has worked as a midwife for UPMC since 2016.

Dr. Stutzman explains that “Both CRNPs and CNMs are considered Advanced Practice Professionals (APP) in the health care field. APPs have advanced degrees and training and are essential to health care in their support of physicians. They can provide services and in many cases, care for patients at the levels of a physician.” CRNP Lentz adds, “Nurse practitioners work with people of all ages and their families, to provide information they need to make informed decisions about their health care and lifestyle.” CNN Russell comments, “A certified nurse midwife is a health professional licensed to provide care to women from adolescence through adulthood, including ob-gyn and maternity care.”

According to Tyler Wagner, Director of Public Relations UPMC in North Central PA, “Women’s services have been available at UPMC Williamsport for many years. All of the women’s services across our region were rebranded, as part of UPMC Magee Womens, a nationally renowned network with a traditional focus on gynecologic and obstetric services, in October of 2021. This rebrand was part of our integration and alignment with UPMC.” More information about UPMC Magee Womens can be found at UPMC.com/Magee NCPA.

Dr. Stutzman resides in Hughesville. Sandy Lentz also lives in Hughesville, and Rebecca Russell resides in Muncy. All three are excited to provide care and expand services for the local community and enjoy providing care at the smaller facility at Muncy UPMC, as well as in Williamsport.
