Capital projects happening at East Lycoming schools
HUGHESVILLE — Capital projects that were approved last year by the East Lycoming School Board are moving forward, according to Dr. Mark Stamm, superintendent.
The board had agreed to pursue ongoing civil engineering design work by Larson Design Group for a topographical survey of stormwater management, as well as restoration roof work at the high school and Ashkar Elementary School. Other projects include replacing HVAC and electrical systems as well as windows at Ashkar. Funds for the projects will come from the $25 million bond fund.
“Larson Design has been on campus to complete a topographical survey that will give them elevations across the entire Hughesville campus so that they can begin working on a preliminary design for water management in that unnamed tributary — the ditch behind the campus,” Stamm told the board in his report.
“Once we get an idea of what we want where, throughout that project, we have to go back to DEP (Department of Environmental Protection). We’re anticipating doing that in mid-February. From there DEP will give us a nod of, you need to keep this, take that, change this. We’ll make those changes and then we’ll actually submit that project to DEP for the permitting process,” he said.
Larson is also assisting with construction documents for concrete repairs throughout the district, which Stamm said has been identified as a tier one project.
Stamm noted that the brick and structural projects that were approved last year are set to go out to bid next month. Work on the roofs and flashing project is expected to begin in early spring.
Stamm reported that the finance committee will discuss an “ancillary set of capital project renovations” for this summer including a renovation of the district office, relocation of Spartan Sips and a minor renovation of the high school faculty room.
