About the time the morning fog gave way to sunshine, patience gave way to chants of “cut the ribbon, cut the ribbon” as the students at Carl G. Renn Elementary School sat through a brief grand opening ceremony for a newly renovated playground at the school. After photos were taken, a Spartan mascot clipped the ribbon with oversized scissors and invited students to check out the chutes, slides, swings and other activities that replaced outdated equipment. Work is in progress at an additional location as the school updates a second playground scheduled to be complete in the coming weeks. RALPH WILSON/Correspondent
