Edna M. Arthur

Edna M. ARthur, 94, formerly of Hughesville, passed away Dec. 20, 2008, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit, where she had resided since February 2004.

Born Nov. 29, 1914, at North mountain, she was the first born of nine siblings of the late Jason and Bessie Vognetz Swisher.

She and her husband, Kenneth M., shared 71 years of marriage until his death in June 2004.

She was a very talented farmer’s wife, was a great cook and seamstress, including lace tatting, crocheting and embroidery. She enjoyed gardening and canning the many fruits and vegetables from her labor; raised chickens and helped with farm work in addition of the many household chores.

She was active in 4H, played piano for church, and was a Sunday School teacher in her early years at Fairview U.M. Church, Unityville R. D. and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Lairdsville. In recent years, she attended the Friends Church in Hughesville. The joy of her family was her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Marian (Peter) Hutchinson, Williamsport; a son, Wayne (Ginny) Arthur, Hughesville; six grandchildren; two step-grandsons; 10 great grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; one great-great grandson, and three step great-great grandchildren; a sister, Martha Karshner; three brothers, Harold, Calvin and Melvin (Grace) Swisher, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Swisher and Mary Marquardt; two brothers, Maurice and Henry Swisher; and three sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Dan Cale officiating. Interment will be in Twin Hill Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends may call from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
