Robert J. Reuther
Robert J. Reuther, 88, of 237 W. Penn St., Muncy, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at the Muncy Valley Hospital.
Born Nov/ 2, 1920, in Muncy, he was a son of Oscar F. and Grace (Michael) Reuther.
He and his wife of 59 years, the former Ruth I. Bodine, were married July 23, 1949.
A 1938 graduate of Muncy High School, he was the class president and valedictorian. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
In 1948 he started a 35-year career as an accountant with the former Smith Truck Lines, Inc. in Muncy, and in 1950 he graduated from Lycoming College, Williamsport, where he earned a degree in accounting. He retired in 1983.
He was a member of the Roland Ritter Post 268 American Legion, Muncy, and a former member of the Muncy Rotary Club. He served as a past president of Muncy Borough Council.
An avid golfer and bowler, he was a member of the retiree’s league at the Wynding Brook Golf Club (formerly Turbot Hills) and bowled in several area bowling leagues.
Mr. Reuther was a member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Muncy.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert B. and Karen Reuther of Morgantown, W.Va., Thomas F. and Sharon Reuther of Milton and Michael D. and Wilda A. Reuther of Montgomery; one daughter, Ellen R. Gilbert of Wilmington, Del.; one sister, Marion R. Neeld of Williamsport; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by seven siblings, John, Oscar and Harold Reuther, Ernestine Reuther, Jeanne Pooler, Betty Stugart, and twins Richard and Virginia Reuther, who died in infancy; and a son-in-law, Ralph Gilbert.
Friends will be received on Friday, Dec. 26, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Muncy, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Donald P. Edwards. Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Muncy, PA 17756. The family is being assisted by Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy.
