William E. Derr

William E. Derr, 72, of Montgomery, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 at the Gatehouse in Williamsport.

Born in Milton, on Jan. 9, 1936, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Derr.

He was the husband of Rachel (Bostian) Derr with whom he celebrated a 36th wedding anniversary on Sept. 2, 2008.

A 1953 graduate of Milton High School, he served during the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Army. He also served in the National Guard for 23 years.

Mr. Derr retired from the Shop-Vac Corporation at Williamsport in 2002. He had previously been employed by Milton Manufacturing for 30 years.

He was a member of the New Covenant Assembly of God Church, Montgomery. He was a life member of Bower-Decker American Legion Post No. 251 at Montgomery and V.F.W. Post No. 5859 at Jersey Shore.

He enjoyed refinishing furniture, hunting and fishing, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Carla Bennett, Sr., Muncy; Art and Sharon Bennett, Montgomery; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rose Ann Edwards, Montgomery; Deb and Ken Edwards, Montgomery; Lily and Timothy Winder, Montgomery; one sister, Helen Jean Snyder, Milton; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Derr.

Funeral services were conducted from the New Covenant Assembly of God Church, on Dec. 19, with the Rev. James R. Pentz, his pastor, officiating. Interment was in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Graveside military services were be conducted by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.
