Helen Lucile Marsh
Helen Lucile Marsh, 87, of Clarkstown Road, Muncy, passed away on Jan. 2, 2009, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. Her husband of 38 years, John R. Marsh, predeceased her on May 13, 1983.
Helen was born near Clarkstown on Feb. 25, 1921, the daughter of the late Harry Preston and Laura Caroline (Michael) Dugan.
Helen was a 1938 graduate of the Galeton High School. She then went on to work at the GTE-Sylvania Plant in Montoursville, where she retired with over 30 years of service. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Clarkstown, where she once was named “Woman of Honor”. She also was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Monsey Chapter #481, and also the Susquehanna Chapter of the ABWA (American Business Woman’s Association), where she was named the “Woman of the Year” in 1985. She enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting. She was a very loving and caring mother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by two children, a son; Richard L. and his wife the former Nancy Turner, of Hughesville, a daughter, Laura F. and husband Lynn L. Van Dine, who reside near Clarkstown, one brother; Byron M. Dugan of Muncy, two sisters; Janet P. Confer of Muncy and Frances E. Spring, near Clarkstown, two granddaughters; Elizabeth A. Longstreth of Hughesville, and Mary Ann Heller of Lairdsville, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Milford, Mary and Alan.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Clarkstown, with her pastor, Rev. Carla Volland, officiating. Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy. Friends will be received on Monday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 East Water Street, Hughesville, from 7 to 9 p.m.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest that memorial contributions be made in Helen’s name to either the Messiah Lutheran Church, 48 Second Ave., Muncy, PA 17756, the Muncy Creek Community Fire Company, 2355 Route 442, Muncy, PA 17756, or a charity of one’s choice.
