Roy E. Deibler, 83, of Watsontown, died Jan. 23, 2009 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Born Dec. 6, 1925 in Elizabethville, he was a son of the late J. Daniel and Estella (Bender) Deibler.
He and his wife of 62 years, the former Miriam M. Jury, were married June 15, 1946.
A 1944 graduate of Elizabethville High School, he worked for 37 years at the Glen Gery Brick Co. in Watsontown, retiring in 1985. He also worked part time as a clerk at Allen’s True Value for 15 years.
In addition, Mr. Deibler and his wife owned and operated the Watson Theatre for 25 years, until selling it in 1995. Northumberland County presented him with a certificate of recognition as an outstanding worker.
He was a member of Watsontown Lodge 401 F & AM and the Williamsport Consistory, where he sang in the choir with a double quartet called “The Achihers.” He enjoyed hunting and also traveled extensively, both here and abroad.
He was a member of Watsontown United Methodist Church, and a former member of First Lutheran Church, Watsontown, where he was a Sunday school superintendent, song leader and council member.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are one son and daughter-in-law, Rick E. and Patricia Deibler of Jamison; one daughter and son-in-law, Darla L. and Charles Barefoot of Watsontown; three brothers, Robert Deibler of Elizabethville, Galen Deibler of Halifax and Donald Deibler of Tower City; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Jackie Deibler Moll, who died in 1970; a sister, Viola Shambach; and three brothers, Paul, Miles and Russell Deibler.
Funeral services were held Jan. 26, at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main St., Watsontown. Officiating was his pastor, the Rev. Douglas M. Eberly. Burial was in Watsontown Cemetery.
