Charles I. Gansell
Charles I. Gansell, 79, of Picture Rocks, died Sunday, February 8, 2009, at his son and daughter-in-law’s home, where he resided.
Born February 3, 1930, in Wolf Township, Lycoming County, he was a son of the late Lewis E. and Florence A. Smith Gansell.
Charley was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Marines and a member of the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.
Charley retired from Young Industries, after having worked there for over 20 years. He was a member of the Picture Rocks Baptist Church and a Charter Member of the Picture Rocks Lions Club. Charley was a well known gunsmith and avid Steelers fan, who also enjoyed wood working, NASCAR and spending time with his family.
Surviving are a son, Craig I. (Bobbi) Gansell of Picture Rocks; a daughter, Crystal L. (William) Whitcomb of Picture Rocks; a sister, Beatrice V. (Paul) Taran of Picture Rocks; a granddaughter, Sherry A. Gardner; a great-granddaughter, Belle E. Albert; his first wife, Judith A. Girton; and his second wife, Shirley Blessing.
Charley was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Campbell and two brothers, Stuart E. Gansell and Louis M. Gansell.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Ron Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Picture Rocks Cemetery, with graveside military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
