James F. Warner

James F. Warner, 71, of Beaver Run Road, Unityville, formerly of the Philadelphia area, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at the Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center in Williamsport.

He and his wife, the former Betty Jane McGurk, celebrated 46 years of marriage this past Oct. 5. He was born in Philadelphia on Feb. 28, 1937, a son of the late James C. and Loretta Warner.

Mr. Warner was a US Navy veteran, serving in the Seabee’s. He was a police officer in the city of Philadelphia for 10 years, before becoming a state liquor control enforcement officer for the state of Pennsylvania, when he retired after 27 years of service in March of 1995. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, deepsea fishing, and keeping horses.

He is survived by his wife Betty Jane Warner, with whom he lived; two sons, James C. and wife Alice Warner of Hughesville, Scott J. and wife Linda Warner of Unityville; one daughter, Betty Jane and husband Frank Harvey of Unityville; a brother, Charles Warner of Benton; a sister, Joan Scott of Chadds Ford; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at 11 a.m. at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, PA, with the Rev. Max Walters, Jr., officiating. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Susquehanna Health System Cancer Center, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
