Garnet M. Sommers
Garnet M. Sommers, 87, of Shetler Road, Muncy, passed away Friday, Feb. 13, 2009 at her home.
Born March 20, 1921 in Maineville, she was the daughter of the late Arthur B. and Hester (Fenstamacher) Laubach. On July 28, 1939 she married Nyle E. Sommers and they have celebrated 69 years of marriage.
A 1939 graduate of the former Turbotville Vocational High School, she was employed for 27 years at Philco-Ford, Watsontown.
She enjoyed flower gardening around her home and was an avid hunter for many years.
She was a lifetime member of White Hall Baptist Church where she was an honorary deaconess and attended the Work and Win Adult Bible Class.
Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert W. and Pamela Sommers, Bloomsburg and James E. Sommers, Sedan, Kan.; a daughter and son-in-law Barbara E. and Clyde M. Jacobs, Williamsport; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a son, Thomas E. Sommers on March 3, 1993 and three brothers; James, Eugene K. and Arthur B. Laubach Jr.
Friends are invited to call at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and at White Hall Baptist Church, 945 White Hall Road, Danville from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday where the funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert L. Ayars, her pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in White Hall Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
